04 wrx makes ticking noise

anyone know what would cause this. Sounds like its coming from the belt. But im not sure. I am taking it in tomorrow to have it looked at, but wanted to know what it might be. I only had the car a week so far.

I get that sometimes. I think that it has to do with the belt hitting the lip on the pulley. If I push on the belt, it stops for a while.

Some amount of engine noise is normal, these are not silent engines. The valves have solid lifters rather than hydraulic and you may be hearing them, the injectors may tick as well. The dealer will tell you if what you are hearing is normal, and for confirmation you can ask to listen to another car there to see if it makes the same sounds.

Hearing the lifters ticking on the boxer engines is pretty common.

my 02 wrx ticks pretty constantly, has done so since it was new...sounds like valvetrain noise of some sort but I've never had a problem from it.

I didn't think that overhead cam engines had lifters. You are right about the noise though. It does make a common ticking sound that I've heard on all Subaru Boxer motors.

It's probably the injectors. Mine's ticked since the day it drove off the lot and is running strong and trouble free after ~55K miles.

I have a '93 Mazda MX6 that has HLA (Hydrolic Lift Assemby) ticking, but especially when low on oil. The car has dohc, and Yes it has lifters.
