WRX Price Negotiations

I worked at a Ford dealership during the summer of '99 when I was in college. Someone mentioned that the amount you put down is important because the salesperson makes money of off that. I can tell you that was definately not true for Ford. Maybe it is different for Subaru, but we saw absolutely no commision related to down payment... just an FYI

Well I hope its different for Subaru because Im gonna throw down like 10g's so hopefully that will make them give me what i want in my price range. Im going this week hopefully to get 22,000 for the subaru i want, then ill pay tax, regis, doc. fees. think it sounds good,? Im only getting a subie with filtration.security upgrade, and spoiler. I might wait because they arent selling very well right now and the price might drop, I think I might try to get 21, 500 or 21,700 will see what happens, ill let you guys know the details

Dealership Manager: How can I help you?
Me: Wagon WRX no options please
DM: Any color?
Me: Any color, but I know you have tons of WRB.
Me: I'll make it easier for you, I want the WRB.
DM: OK. Let's go to the parking lot.
**DM, myself and my GF started running around the lot to find the WRB 5-spd manual tranny. "DM started yelling, HURRY! HURRY! We have 10 minutes to pick which one you like!"**
Me: I found one!
DM: **Running, then throws me the key** Here, pull it over to the light and see if there's any flaw!
Me: NOTHING! all clean n clear!
DM: Let's run back to my office!
**A guy suddenly follows us to her office and asked for my name and address**
DM: How much do you wan't to pay for this?
Me: $22K
DM: Done. You got a deal. SOA financing?
Me: YES!
DM: 3.9% for 60months
Me: alrighty.
DM: Any trade-in?
Me: YES. 1996 93k GS-R
DM: How much do you want for that?
Me: $9k
DM: Can't do. Trade-in value is only $5.5K, I'll give you $6.5K.
Me: OK.
DM: Down payment?
Me: $3K
DM: $2.5K goes to your GS-R (up side down amount)
DM: $500.00 down payment total
Me: OK.
DM: $441.03/mo x 60months.
Me: OK.
total amount financed including tax+lic+doc fees: $24K
total payments over the life of the loan: $26K
Interest over 5 years: $2K
Maybe if I started at $21K when she first asked me, I could have gotten it for that price too. But hey, I can't complain with my current deal now. We were running around because we are trying to beat the closing time of SOA office (8PM PST).
IRVINE SUBARU rocks!

i dont get that...why did 2.5k go to the gsr? isnt the gsr and then the 3gs apart of your down payment...
e.g. car is 20000 your trade in is 5000 and you put down 5 so all you have left is 10000 to pay?

$500.00 above invoice
I just bought a '03 WRX wagon, WR Blue with a few options; in Bassett, VA. from Nelson Subaru/Mazda for $500 above invoice, putting down $4500.00 and paying TT&L, etc. Financed balance at 3.9% for 60 months; my payment is $349.68.
They did not want to do a deal with a trade-in, but told me if I came back without a trade-in they would sell me the car at $500 over Invoice. Invoice price was based upon carsdirect.com. I hope I got a good deal.
