WRX Price Negotiations

Ok here's the gist of what's going on! At the point where I'm ready to buy my WRX sedan blue with a spoiler! The Invoice is saying 23,342, TMV,23,226. I told two dealerships I'm willing to go 22,000 out the door with tax/license. Is that the way to go or should I wait and try to go down more!

i bought mine when it was 23,995 january of 2002 and i ended up paying 29,500 out the door cuz 5 year finance, and got all the options, plus it was brand spankin new and i was 21. 22,000 would work only if u have cash up front but if u r financing it, it wont fly, some reaons when buying new wrx's from dealer,u take the msrp price and add to it,u normally wouldnt get it lower unless u put about 10 grand down. i put 8 grand down and it just shortened by payements. depending where u live makes the difference but for a unique car u can buy anywhere else or buy an equivelent car for the price,i doubt they will go lower. worth a shot though.
and by the way,i took my friends father cuz he is king at nagotioation seemingly he has 7 vehicles (works for NASA)

They will probably not accept a 22K offer. If you give me the MSRP I can calculate an offer that will be fair. I just bought a new WRX and did a significant amount of research on the subject of buying a car. This is a great time to buy a Subaru as the manufacturer has a $750 dollar dealer incentive.

These offers are not including the 525 dollar destination fee, tax, or title fees. Offering 22505 will give the dealer 3 % profit. Offering 22724 will give the dealer 4 % profit. Offering 22942 will give the dealer a 5 % profit. Do not go over 5 %. Thats more than fair. Stand your ground and be willing to walk...watch em squirm to get you to stay. If you have a trade in that will really complicate things. If you don't, thats great. Start low and fight every inch. If you want more help, just let me know.

One thing to avoid when dealing with car dealers is make sure you have a decent down payment cuz a % of the down goes to the salesperson and then they will go talk to the dealer manager (or at least thats what they did with me) to get it lower so they can get the nice down payment. And a main thing not to do is go in saying positive things about the car. Walk in with the intent that you hate the car or compare it to the lexus i300 (which i did cuz thats a great car for same price also) and then it will make them not want you to walk away. The moment they see you smiling and happy with the car and wanting it then and there is the moment the ball goes into their court to mess with you. Dont let them have the ball

yeah I didn't do much negotiating. I spoke to the salesperson and got $800 off of what they wanted which was already low since the dealer, Irvine Subaru, sells the most wrx's. They had alot onhand and so you can pick and choose the one you want.
I put 11 g down

metersman thxs for the info, well heres my situation, i was originally gonna sell my car and take that cash so i will have 10gs for a down payment. but now it might be more pain then its worth and all, and it might be easier to trade it in, so will that complicate things, sorry if this is a stupid question, but this is my first time buying a new car and its good to get all the info possible...i really do appreciate your help too, its nice to find someone that is willing to help another person out. now how did you find out teh dealers percentage of profit? the price you came up was around what i was thinking of, all i gotta do is find out how much tax and all that will bring the total too.

Check out http://carsdirect.com/ and then once you pick your car and options click on estimate payments. It'll show you the average fees and factor in tax. They also reflect the rebate.
Talk it down more! The invoice was about the same for my 02 WRX Sport Wagon and I got it for 21,750. A friend of mine got his 02 WRX Sedan for 21,000! You can do better than 22,000!
If you do do 22,000 at least include licensing and registration.

go to carpoint.com and find the invoice cost. it'll show it to you. add on the cost of the options. for example....i think the invoice should be for around 22,500 or close to that. take this number and add the cost of the options you want. now, if the number comes out to 23,500 total....add 500 bucks to that. that's what you should pay. put your tax and tags on top of that afterwards...there's you price. standard dealer sale is 500 bucks over invoice. if you're paying more than that you're not looking around enough. i just bought my 03 WRX with auto dimming mirror, rear spoiler, short throw shift, and sound package...........all that plus tax/tags......i paid $23,710.20 to roll it off the lot. i paid for the car in full.....so i had a little advantage since i had a blank check in my pocket.....but it's not that hard to get a great deal right now with the economy so bad.
the sticker on that car was over 25,000....and in the end, tax plus tags plus my options i paid $23,710.20!!!! after taz/tags the original price would have been almost 27,000.....so look around and see what you can find!!! later, riggs
