negotiations OFF the table- Subaru Kaneohe (edit 10-18-2005)
FYI-
Subaru Kaneohe has been put on the backburner ever since Dec 2004.
there are talks going on about when and how this may be once again. i plan to get onboard if this happens...and only if i am in the capacity of which i was when i left.
so it's possible that our doors may not be open again... and then again it's definitely needed to have one on the windward side- the question is will we experience the increase in sales like how the experts have forecasted?
apparantly Subaru stocks nearly tripled last year.... so we will see
and if this does not follow through- i will once again re-evaluate my career in Subaru. in the meantime i'm starting to have a blast in the world of i-vtec

I think its a good idea to have a Subaru in the Windward side,..
For one,..having AWD in Kaneohe is a good selling point,...Considering the rain and wet weather the Windward side is known for and the safety of having AWD is synonymous,..
Secondly,..having a military base nearby and all the service people looking for a "hot ride" to buy is another reason,...A lot of military personnel buy cars like Evo's, SRT-4s, STIs, WRXs, and LGTs because of the need for speed etc, etc,..
Thirdly, I think other cars like the Outback would do well as its an nice alternative to have a stationwagon type vehicle for soccer moms and for those that just need more space,...
I was waiting for Kaneohe Subaru to reopen, and when it didnt, it left me with 3 other choices, but none can compare to the nicer, more pleasant atmosphere of the Koolau mountains and Windward breeze,...
hope your doors reopen again on that side,...

one thing i have been watching... apparantly subaru had to "readjust" their sales forecast for this year. apparantly we are behind a little. something like 280,000 units to a much lower of like 250,000-
since subaru accounts a huge amount of FHI's profits worldwide... i'd like to see more intervention on the U.S. market.
lately our marketing has been interesting and innovative. but i think if we kidnap the marketing team that does nissan's commercials we should do a lot better.(i swear after watching the commercials i wanna go out an buy a nissan)
i'll tell you guys one thing though... if SOA starts to offer cash back incentives(like 1,000 dollars etc.) i think i would probably back out of subaru for a while. rebates really hurt the value of a car... if at worst offer special interest rates... not rebates-
so hopefully they stay true to their "upscale" vision... and keep cash back incentives out of the game. if they don't... they can just go back down the ranks and compete with everyone else. where they are right now.. getting compared with higher line cars.... is a challenge- but a right move IMO
with all that said- if we do open up... everything i mentioned has a role in my decision to "come back". i'm a career man.
ok its 3am. i'm tired and need to sleep

i think if it does open again you guys will have plenty of customers. i say that having just went to the old ohana subaru where they were seriously marking up the cars. my girl went to buy an rs and we left a little dissapointed that they wouldn't come down a little on the price. she went over to five star and got a base legacy for less than waipahu wanted for an RS! i know if you guys open up i would buy from you again.

i am in the process of putting together a financial report as a way to "sell" the idea that opening up Subaru Kaneohe again will be profitable. plus i think we would generate more sales for SOH.
plus i'm sure Chris would welcome the competition. i have yet to formally discuss this matter with Gunnar(our old GM) we had some refreshing ways of doing business and i think if we continue- it would mark a new era in car sales here in hawaii. we both have just been so busy working our "day job"-
i'm eager to see an actual business plan/vision laid out.
stay tuned.

after our meeting on Friday... word is.... Pflueger will not let anyone else in on the pie... now that 5 star is vulnerable.... seems like there will be one exclusive dealership..or at least it seems that way---
the bad thing is Subaru of Hawaii (IMHO) knew this from the start of negotiations with Pflueger.. in their acqusition of all Schuman retail/service depts.
i speculate that a deal was reached to let Pflueger come in and monopolize the market..in promise of them moving a lot of metal...(cars that is...for the naieve) for the distributor (SOH) the last i heard was a target of 1,200 cars annually was a target... but i'm not sure
so what am i saying? yes i am making a strong statement. that is what i believe. and it sucks that because of this Subaru Kaneohe is now defunct--------
