Ticking after car is shut off

I know it is normal, because every car I have owned has done it, but why does my car tick after I shut it off? What causes it?

haha i've always wondered that as well..... i'm assuming it has something to do with the oil?

Just all of the hot parts cooling down. (expansion and contraction)
