Why should your parents be any part of equation? I'm sick of reading about the i-club members parents wishes. Here's what I did. Got a Toyoya truck in 1999. Saved money, bought what I could afford, and afford to INSURE. Late 2001, started saving for a WRX. Worked full time, read everything I could find on this amazing new Suby. After about 14 months, I had 10K saved. Researched WRX prices and options. [Edmunds.com or new car.com]. Talked to the owner of the local dealership.[Irvine Subaru]. Told them what I wanted. [Silver REX, right off the truck, NO DEMO MILES] Went to dealership in Nov, 2002, put my 10K and my Toyota as down payment. Thats 19K down payment. Financed the rest. My monthly payment is 171.00. Now I can afford to INSURE the car and by mods. I know this is REALLY boring! Welcome to being financially responsible. Its taken me a long time to mature. I've declared BK in the past, buying stuff I couldn't afford. Years of barely making it, cause I just had to have something shiney and new. Whatever. Don't make the same mistakes I did. See you on the road. Sincerely, Collins
The only reason his parents should be a part of it is because they are the ones who have to pay for the funeral if he totals the wrx. I had all th emoney saved and everything but my dad wouldn't let me get the wrx because he knew I would kill myself. I understood and am glad I didnt get the wrx because I love my RS.

I'm sure nobody here had a high horse power car we they were 17 right. Leave the kid alone let him rant. How long have most of you been driving? matt2.5 how bout you how long you been driving. The 2.5 is to much car for a beginner so why not a corolla or a accent that would be out of the performance catergory right.
Better yet an old justy or tercel. And I know nobody here has been involved in an accident right?

pbchief2, I've been driving for only 2 and a half years and I know I have no experience. I started out learning on a mustang because it was manual and then my dad bought me a ford focus zx3 back in 2000. I enjoyed driving the car and I gained a lot of experience on it. It was manual trans which I wanted but didn't have any other luxuries. No power anything except the stereo. Anyway that's besides the point, the car was good but then in Oct of 2002 the suspension was having major issues and then he front right wheel and suspension collapsed under me while driving and I spun out into a curb. I was carless for about 3 weeks which was hell where I live. School is too far to walk to and there are no bus routes so I had to have people drive me everywhere. Anyway when it came time to getting another car my dad was going to buy the whole thing again for me. I did not want that. I know I'm spoiled but I don't ask for anything or complain when I can't have them. I had 11k dollars saved up at the time and wanted a wrx but my dad said he doesn't want me driving a very fast car so we both agreed on the 2.5RS. So my dad bought the car and I gave him all the money I had saved and I still am and I only have 3k dollars left to pay off. I didn't want my dad paying for any of my car because I'm stubborn. Now I know the RS isn't for beginners but I was just saying that it's an alternative to a WRX and a very good one at that.

I do agree tho, a lower performance car is a must for a beginner but I think he already said he's been driving but still, no matter the performance of a car, people will do stupid things.

didnt mean to come off like you shouldnt have the rs. my first car when I got my license at 17 was a stroked and race prepped 351c in a 71 mustang. I bought it for $800 from my moms friend who just divorced her husband. I just think if some of you were in the same situation you would take the car.

hmm..

imo... i think when we receive our license.. it wouldn't really matter what kind of car we get... I think that we would drive fast rather if its a corolla/civic or a evo/350z....

i just turned 18 a few weeks back. I have had several cars.. 94 cavalier, 02 premium rsx, now 03 p5....

well good for you. It's always nice to see people get what they want when they've saved up for it. Once you get it be safe and if you do plan on wrapping it around a tree, pole or anything please don't hit one head on because I would like you're engine Not saying you will but be careful and have some fun!
