Hi there all.
My name is Greg and yesterday I become the owner of a my99 impreza sadan.
Non turbo. Its a cool little car for the family , Its done 80.000 kms and previously
One lady owner. So the familys happy . However I gave one gripe with it!
The check engine light stays on after ignition, not all the time , just intermitantly .
Ive done all the oil and water checks, and know my way around an engine.
I think its a loose connection , or a poor earth some where. I was hopeing that some nice person could shed some light on my situation?
Thanks
Greg.

welcome to the sight.
with your car...my sisters car (not a subaru) had the check engine light on for about a week. i also know my way around an engine and i did all the usual procedures like you. we ended up having to take it in for service. the timing belt ended up being off. you might be better off just taking it to subaru for a look.

Hard to diagnose a CEL unless you use a code reader to display the actual fault code, or have a dealer do so.
You might also want to fill out the Location field in your member Profile to reflect a general location of where you live. The car models in Australia do differ from the models sold in the U.S.A. This message board consists mainly of discussions of the U.S. domestic market cars imported or manufactured by Subaru of America.

The engine runs fine, I just thought that it might be a common problem with the my99 , and maybe someone had the same fault. Also if the check engine light is only on now and then . I wonder if the fault code will be logged by the EMS.
Because I would hate to get to the workshop and be told (we cant find a fault),
besides the banks empty. And subaru are'nt cheep. So a look from them will have to wait.
There cant be that many types of faults which would activate a (CHECK ENGINE)
light? Or is there?
Cheers.

Cool , Code reader
Is it a device or software and a PC?
If its hard to diagnose a CEL , without a reader could it be a nuisence fault like low battery voltage? or low washer bottle level. lol?
