New here (Legacy 2.5 misfire and power loss)

New here and have ?

My mom has a 96 Legacy Outback with 2.5L engine. Lately it's been misfiring and losing power. Plugs, wires, and ignition have been changed and still does the same. Original parts were used. What the hell is going on? Anybody?

Sounds like you may have a problem with your valves. My friend has a 98 outback and had the same exact problem. He replaced all the same things you have and the problem persisted.

Problem: MELTED VALVE in the #4 cylinder. He had to get a valve job and some other work done to repair the problem. Happened to him at 125,000 miles and I have heard this problem is common but doesn't occur in every car. Have a shop do a compression test and that will quickly give you your answer.

forgot to add that it sometimes works just fine and other days runs slower. If the valve was melted i guess the car would be slow all the time. The car has only ~70k miles

His did the same thing. At first, the problem would come and go. In fact, they replaced the plugs the first time and it went away, so that thought that was it. Then it would happen intermittently then it got to the point where it was permanent.

He still has the valve..it's jacked.

thanks. Is this something that just happens due to some oversight on Subaru's part? Should not happen when you just drive nice and easy.

PS I like it in the snow hehe

I don't remember exactly what caused it, but the #4 cylinder on that motor runs hotter than the others for some reason.

mechanic said that #3 is misfiring. We shall see soon enough. Car will be looked at thoroughly.
