Which Impreza?

Hi, I'm a car enthusist. I currently drive a 01 Mustang GT. I love the car but, It is expensive to Mod and has very fragile internals. So, I'm considering getting and Impreza. I've got a few questions which is by far the best, WRX, RS, or should I wait to see if the STI is coming out? I've heard the the Imprezza has a weak transmission, and I'm wondering about how the drivetrain hold up to moding along with the stock internals of the 2.0 and the RS's 2.5 If the RS has Stronger components than the WRX, and a turbo can be added to an RS I think that would be the way to go. But I want to hear it from the enthusists. Sorry for the long first thread, I just want the facts.

I own a 99 2.5 RS, and let me tell ya, it grips the road without sliding out, like I've heard the WRX does. Not that I've actually driven it, but friends and simulation driving games seem to agree.
The RS won't suck you back in your seat like the WRX does off the lot, but if you're getting a turbo, you're adding it to an engine that's 25% larger than a WRX. Look ouTTTTT!!!!!!

Which Impreza?
Hi All,
I have a follow up question to this one. Would people recommend waiting for an STi or going for a stock WRX and then modding it?
From what I have heard, stock STi has 276 Hp, whereas a modded WRX (looking at Vishnu stage 1 and stage 2) can go up to 350 hp. I know this is purely a power advantage and that I would have to mod the suspension as well, but I figure I can always do that later.
Any thoughts?
Cheers,
Dave.

Which Impreza?
I would be prepared to pay full price for an STi if I thought I would be getting a much better deal than upgrading a standard WRX.
I guess 30-35K would be the total I would want to spend. I figure for that amount I should be able to get a car outperforms any stock car this side of $100K.
From what I have seen, Vishnu's Stage sub-0 is $750 (up to 260 hp), stage 0 is $1195 (up to 285 hp), stage 1 is $2495 (up to 310 hp) and stage 2 is $4395 (up to 350 hp).
I know hp isn't everything, but it seems like a good start! The major differences I can see between the STi and an upgraded WRX are:
6 speed transmission
larger turbo
modded internals (e.g. sodium filled valve stems)
suspension setup
brakes

Car Info: want a WRX
i think wut u could do is get a stock impreza ASAP 02 and 03 are pretty much the same xcept for a better clutch in the 03 and more options but if ur gonna do mods u dont need the xtra options and u could a high performance clutch later....spark plugs....get them replaced..i heard that it gets to redline faster and idles smoother w diff plugs... so ur first 2 mods are rite there if u do buy a stock...it will be fun to spend like 10-13k addin mods and stuff if u buy the wrx or 2.5...in super street there are places that have bigger turbos and stuff just for the WRX so gettin stuff fromt there done mite not be a bad idea....o yea and for 13k theres a place in san fran that mods like everything...i dont know all the details but i could look it up if ur interested

My first question to you is: what do you want to use the car for?? Is this going to be your everyday driver or the weekend romper?? also, what body style do youlike?? I'm partial to the 2000 over the new WRX body style. Though I have seen the new style for the STi and like that as well, but not the $$$. I would suggest getting a 2.5 over the WRX then doing the mods. I 've heard enough horror stories from others, mostly young kids, that have modded dthe WRX 2.0 and end up blowing out the #4 hole. The 2.5 is a stronger motor and can hold up to the higher boost than the 2.0. I'm a chevy man myself (82 Z-28 Corssfire) but have found that the 2.5rs is more car than it seems to be. I hated Subies until I drove my first 2.5rs.

I used to own a 99 GT and loved it...though it was heavily modded. But I drove the WRX and it was fun...of course I could not really get on it since I was with the dealer...but I enjoyed it.
IMO though...someone talked about the STi here...I believe that those will be limited and of course limited production carries a premium on it. From experience in my 360rwhp/340trq Stang...unless you are going to being drag racing on the street all the time...the WRX is the way to go...handling on the street is much more important to me than power. BUT the WRX contains both power and handling....
power to weight ratio favors the WRX extremely.

I would at least wait for the detroit auto show next week to see what the STI will be like for the USDM market.
But I say, if you want a sedan, get the STI. If you prefere the wagon, just get the WRX. And if you want to go very fast in every way possible, get an old <$10,000 Impreza and mod the **** out of it with all the money you save.
