Length for Cargo with Rear Seats Removed? WRX? Other?
I'm in the investigative, pre-shopping stage and my closest Subaru dealer is 40 minutes away. I'm sorta thinking about a WRX Sport Wagon but am wondering if its easy to remove and re-install the rear seats for more cargo length. More specifically, once they are removed, would there be enough room for sleeping in the back. (Minimum 6 feet from back of front seats to the rear of the vehicle.)
If the WRX Wagon won't work, what wagon offers the most cargo length with the rear seat removed? How easy to remove?

Maybe I'm missing somthing but you could just lay the seats down. Removing the rear seats in the wagon doesn't give you any more length in the cargo area. I would give you about 6" deeper cargo area where the rear seats are but no extra length.
The seats are easy to remove. There are four bolts that hold them in and then they just pivot out. But, I don't recommend doing it that often since I don't know how the housing for the bolts in the seat backs are constructed and you might end up stripping the housing out.
When I installed my leather seats, I found that one of the bolts used to mount the seat had a defect in the threads and it messed up the threads in the housing. I ended up having to use a tap to re-thread the hole. Luckily for me the bolts are the same size as the flywheel bolts for my 914 so I just used one of them as a replacement.

In any car I've ever owned that had a fold-down rear seat, the whole seat either folded forward and took up about a foot of cargo length. OR--the back of the seat folded either forward or toward the back. In either case, it made for a very lumpy bed. I've always had to remove the rear seat in order to stretch out comfortably during quick camping trips.
Is it possible to sleep (comfortably) in the back of a Subaru wagon without removing the rear seat?

[b]y would u be sleepin in ur car?[b]
I don't sleep in my car very often. It's nice to be able to do so on quick overnighters to the mountains. You can sleep out under the stars but its nice to climb in the back of a wagon if the weather gets bad.

I don't think the back of the seat is solid and it might be a little lumpy. The seats lay fairly flush with the rear cargo area and when the seats are laid down, they go most of the way to the front seats. The is a bump on the top of the rear seats but that might work as a pillow. I'll measure the length tonight.
If you are worried about it being lumpy, pick up a camping/backpacking air mat. They are fairly compact (about the size of a 1# coffee can) rolled up and work very well.
