I know this must have been discussed to death, but I just can't find the threads. Looking to find out what the main components of the drivetrain are, especially the diffs, how they work together, and how they differ between the manual/auto cars. TIA.

Thanks, but I was looking fro somtn more subaru-specific. I know how the basic diff and tranny work, but I don't know the exact drivetrain ayout in my Impreza L. Or the WRX. Or the STi. What's the difference? I remember seeing mucho info on this stuff, but don't remember where...

 

You mean what kind of diffs we have?

Impreza base models have open front and rear differentials with a viscous coupling center. WRX and the 00-01 2.5RS has a rear LSD. The STi has front and rear LSD.

Umm...one has a clutch and the other doesn't. No just joking, but I'd like to know the difference, also. More importantly, the torque split between the front and rear. I've read that the 5 speed manual WRX has a 50/50 torque split, while the automatic has 60/40 front/rear. Just wondering if this is true...? Sorry, don't mean to jack your thread, Zora..
