Hey everyone, I am a new subaru owner and have a noticable concern in the engine area. First off there is a loud whine noise heard at idle, louder when accelerating and at higher speeds. All gears. I have been having some drive belt squeels but this is definitly louder then that. The car has about 95,000 on it. I am assuming it might be a Idler Pulley but don't want to go at this with just a shotgun of a guess.

Anyone else have this concern around this mileage?

 

it could be your alternator that is making the whinnying noise also

 

I thought that too but the noise did not change with the radio on/off, headlights on/off. I had a mechanic take a stethescope to the area and he said it sounded to be coming from the pulley area but I wanted to double check

 

Have you tried removing the accessory (alternator and air conditioning) belts?

Perhaps one of the belts could be bad?

 

one week ago i had the same problem and it were the crank shaft pulley were making that noise

 

bump my car started making the whining noises and my a/c seems to be not as cold.

 

The clutch on my ac started locking up and caused a similar symptom. It magically started working again and the problem went away.
