clutch shudder when cold
I would like to hear from anyone who has replaced their clutch plate or flywheel because of this known design flaw on recent subarus (I have a 2001 outback). Does replacing any or all of the clutch components cure this problem? I have been reading this forum for a number of months now, and notice numerous complaints about the clutch engagement, and no one is saying that any dealer has fixed the problem. (I have had the same experience). Thanks for listening. I'm new at posting here, and wasn't sure which forum to use.

if u have complained about the problem and have documentation of before the warranty expired then they should be able to do it under warranty since you complained about it while under warranty---if they give u the runaround talk to the service manager or soa. if no documentation its all out of pocket
my mom's outback did the same thing...so into the shop it went and about 3 or so months later it came back but they swear that it's not the clutch. + it is even worse than before. Crummy engineering on Subaru's part, I think!

Car Info: 02 WRX wagon=dead; rollin' in a Craptastic Camry!
My WRX clutch started chattering when cold at about 9-10K miles. At ~19K miles it was replaced in July '02 under warranty with new clutch, flywheel, throwout bearing and other odds 'n ends. I'm at about 28K miles now and it shuddered like crazy exactly one week ago in the morning. On that same drive, after the car was totally warmed up, I launched from a light slipping the clutch with the tach at ~3K (I rarely do this to my car-gosh it was fun!). No shudder since then, but if it's like last time it will come back any day now. I will mention it to my dealer to have it on record before my warranty is up. I plan to wait a few more thousand miles until the problem is consistent enough for the dealer to reproduce it and get the "new" clutch replaced with the "newer" clutch.
