Boost leak I think ?? :sadbanana:

Hello everyone,
I seem to be having a boost leak, and I am look for some advice for how to find out if, first in fact it really is a boost leak, and secondly if it is a boost leak what is the best way to locate it. Here is my issue, If I am driving the car with normal acceleration everything is fine, no shifting issues, the car can go to all the way to red line, etc. The problem starts when I start to gain boost. (FYI - I typically can boost up to 19-20psi) Now, when I start to accelerate, whatever RPM it is, whatever gear I am in, If I hit somewhere in the range of 8-10 psi the car will stutter, the RPMs will stay roughly in the same spot and fluctuates rapidly making the car sound like a rally car (kind of cool be really annoying all at the same time) and the car will not go any faster. At first I thought it was a fuel issue and it could still be, but I get full RPM range with no real boost. That being said, what is the best way to locate a boost leak? I was thinking of Sea Foaming it thinking it would send some smoke out the spot that was leaking, but wanted to see what everyone thought. Would a leak in the intercooler piping be a cause, could a leak in the turbo inlet pipe cause this to happen, or all of the above could?
Thanks for your input.

I had this problem in my 2003 Mazdaspeed Protege, don't know if it would be the same but it acted exactly the same way. The turbo on the Protege was actually going out. It wasn't boosting anymore. Like I said, it might not even be that but you might want to check it out.

Mod list would be cool. If I remember you are on a front Mount with doom 3xtr. With the front Mount is going to be a pain in the ***. Especially if it does not act silly at idle. You can make a fitting remove pipe from turbo out and charge with compressor then spray soapy water on joints and look for bubbles.

I hope it is not the Turbo I just put it in new.... so doubtful.. but Yeah I guess I can try the soapy water trick thanks.. still not sure if air leaking from the inntercooler piping would cause this type of issue...

Did you Renee for new turbo? Sounds like boost cut. Do you have the proper tune loaded.

Yes, I had it pro tuned and was running fine, then it just started out of the blue.. I just checked the Turbo actuator that controls the internal waste gate and it is not stuck so... And I can find any real noticeable leaks..

So I found the prob.. I took of the front bumper and checked all the intercooler piping. Turns out the exit side of the intercooler cup link and pipe were barely together.
I tighten it all up and took it for a drive and presto!! Back to big turbo power. Thanks to all for there input.

Don't beat yourself up bro, its all good, you really couldn't have seen/felt it being loose.
I forget to mention what the real reason I took off the bumper was. The fog light cover was popping off and when I tried to put it back on I noticed that the IC pipe was stopping it from going back on correctly. That caused further investigation.
I am just glad I don't have to take it in, waste of time I don't have, and can focus money on other upgrades. you know.... any luck/info on the KFF?
