anyone else going for the sleeper look?

I'm all about the sleeper. The only exterior difference on my wagon is a real set of tires and I have a twin tip exhaust as well to keep it some what stock looking. Right now I put down 252whp and I plan to keep it stock looking later on when I plan on having over 300whp. No mustang or camero owner is going to expect a wagon to have over 300hp. And boy will he look like a chump to his buddies when his cool muscle car loses to a wagon.

yep- 1st all black Sti no wing, no STi interior, no Huge scoop... FMIC w/black anodized front- black calipers.black(painted BBS) rims. possibly widebody-
not much of a sleeper though. but i figure black everything out and rid the wing and scoop... and thats sleeper enough 4 me.

How many times have you gone to the runs and lined up against a car that look stock and thought "damn that car has got to be fast" because I know thats happened to me in the past cause If you really want the "sleeper look" buy an outragous wing and crazy weird fast and furious body kit. Then people will think your slow....hahah
Oh yeah one other thing...Some kits are functional like my chargespeed kit for example on my 04 suby it was designed to create more downforce at the same time enhancing the body lines of my suby....So yeah in the end what truly is the "sleeper look"?

) because the wing causes too much drag and hurts their time- it is a trade off
.Also- the sleeper STi look is cool, however, the only people who would even know it is an STi really wouldn't be a threat to anyone with a modded STI
. It is the 11-12 second domestic guys I go after- they have no clue if it is a 2.5RS, WRX or STI- rice is rice to them lol..Joe

My car looked pretty stealth even under the hood until recently. I used the APS exhaust too which is pretty quiet except it is single tip. I also have a wagon and I put one of those black bumper gaurds on it too.
My car is very subtle - My biggest mod is a Crawford 2.4 racing engine
Reason car does not look so stealthy under the hood now is that I've added a large TMIC, and a blue turbo inlet hose - the stock one was torn.
There is a guy, "stealthWRX" on the other board - his car looks like a totally stock 2.0 WRX black sedan - huge engine.

Nice!!! What are the 1/4 times if you have any? Sorry- newb with the WRX- what is the APS exhaust and where can I find it? I would like 3" but quiet- I think I am getting old
. I usually just do my own exhausts with Ultraflows, but am looking to see what is out there for this car. I have noticed a lot of stuff has some SERIOUS price gouging going on though. I may have to change that!! Then again, most of the guys I know- when they hear a WRX with a loud exhaust they think it is running like crap because of the boxer sound- so maybe loud would be more "sleeper" than quiet lol- "listen to that ricer- all that money into it and the car is only running on 3 cylinders" hahah.Joe

First time poster. Long time reader. Since I bought my 04 STi. Stealth is the way to go for me. But I'm not lookin for 12's or 11's. These are build to rally and that's my direction. I'm still perfectly stock. Still recouperating from buying a house. Suspension is 1st on the list. Then WHP. kwiktsi (probably meant kwiksti) has the same question I do. I'm looking for less restrictive exhaust that's still very quiet. Ant leads?

My comment though is that the STi exhaust + Helix up + Helix catless down pipe is pretty good. I am currently running the Borla "hush" which sure sounds a lot louder on my car than it did on the demo cars.
Good Luck.

naahh- kwiktsi- it is from back in my talon days
. I have used that for about 7 years and all my friends, customers, etc. know me by that

sleeper look? half the guys driving around in wrx wagons are successful at that!
keep in mind that 16" stockers will not clear BBK's like brembo & stoptech.
also, i think exterior mods are okay...it's basically what the owner wants for his car. yes, huge wings look tacky, 19" rims are unnecessarily heavy, and BOV's are not functional at stock boost levels...but that's not for us to decide. maybe those owners have already decided that their car is already fast enough, so they're going for the furious look. LOL.

one more thing -- on the issue of exterior mods...rice is a VERY relative terms. to me, a stock STi looks a little too ornate. i would lose the wing, get rid of foglight covers to have foglights, get the silver BBS option if not go with another rim altogether, and that huge hoodscoop (though functional) doesn't look right.
that is what i meant with "it's what the owner wants for his car." some STi guys might think i'm on crack whereas some people might think STi guys are ricers. it's all relative!!!
