'99 2.5RS brake question
i was wondering at what rate do the pads and rotors usuaully wear down on the 2.5? My dad has just talked to the dealership here in MA, they just informed that his car, with under 5ok mi on it, needs a complete brake job, minus calipers. i under tand that brake wear depends on the driver, but this seemed ridiculous to me that it now costs, get this 700 dollars! oh yeah, i forgot to mention that he got the clutch replaced last month. i think it just comes down to him being a ****ty driver. but if you guys have any thoughts, i'd love to hear them.
Thanks

Buy the pads yourself and get aftermarket rotors. You might as well buy aftermarket cause some of the stock stuff is about as much. $700 sounds really high. Just get the pads and rotors if need be and do the work yourself. If he wants cheap pads buy them at a local shop. Some of the local shops will even turn your rotors if you've bought your pads from them. Unless your dads stock pads have chewed up a rotor that bad which I don't see being possible unless a caliper needs to be rebuilt.

Subaru dosen't recommend turning rotors when you change the pads and if you do it needs to be while they are on the car.
Brakes (and replacing the rotors) are pretty easy to do. If you search around the Scoobymods site you can see some pics on the subject. 700 sounds like a lot to me too. Does he do a lot of city driving? Does he rest his foot on the brake or something like that? When you say complete I'm guessing you mean front and rear. It seems strange he needs the rear's too, those usually last a longer than that.
