STI THUNKING NOISE BETWEEN 10 AND 20 MPH

I RECENTLY PURCHASED AN STI. IT HAS ABOUT 170 MILES AND I'M HEARING A THUNKING NOISE BETWEEN 10 AND 20MPH, WHEN I LET OFF THE CLUTCH IN SECOND AND THIRD GEARS. IT ONLY DOES IT WHEN I'M GOING SLOW AND SHIFT. WHEN I PUNCH IT A LITTLE , IT'S NOT THERE ANYMORE. DOES ANYONE KNOW IF THIS IS NORMAL CAUSE I KNOW THAT THE STI'S TRANSMISSION IS DESIGNED DIFFERENTLY BECAUSE OF THE POWER IT HANDLES. ANYWAY I'M A FREAK WHEN IT COMES TO NOISES IN MY CAR, I HEAR EVERY LITTLE THING. ESPECIALLY AT 170 MILES. I'M HOPING THAT THIS IS NORMAL, IF ANYONE KNOWS ANYTHING, PLEASE POST IT.

I suggest you take it back to your dealer and have them look at it. Maybe you just need to practice shifting?
Another thing, kill the CAPS.

same noise on mine I think. 2nd gear low rpm going into a 90 degree turn at about 10 mph I would hear a fairly loud clunking sound coming from the center console area. I get the same noise reversing out of my driveway. I got use to it quick tho since this car makes so much mechanical noise neways. And if I worried about every noise I heard coming from it I would never drive it.
Btw my dccd has been on auto since I got it.

I've got this noise too.
Tight turns at slow speed in 1st or 2nd gear with DCCD set to anything but locked or auto. Noticed it at 70miles...haven't messed with DCCD since, but I will bring it into the dealership as soon as I get a chance. It does not sound like normal breakin noises to me, but I'm not a mechanic.

Same here, I had 1500 miles on and DCCD auto.
2nd gear, clutch and gas both out, the rev drops to about 1k, then the noise kicks in, give a little bit gas, the noise will go away. I figure it might be just the differential.
I found out abt it around 1000 miles. But seems now happens less. I'd wait and see. If it gets worse, then take to the dealer.
Just sharing.

I experienced the thing and really freaked out...stopped the car and looked if I had run over an evo8
. Seriously though, stopped the car to check but could not see anything underneath or work out why the car was shaking when turning tight corners in 1st or 2nf gears. Then I thought could it be the DCCD? as I'd only turned it on manual not long ago. Thank ****, I hit the problem on the spot! Turned the DCCD back to auto and it was fine! Really scared the crap out of myself (almost called the Subaru salesman to say that he sold me a dumpster
)
hey you guys, check out this really useful thread from scoobynet.com, it's got all the basic DCCD info you need to know:

DCCD noises
I have read on other posts that the noises you are hearing are natural. The noise is the DCCD binding up when it tries to keep the front wheels and rear wheels spinning at the same speed. I forgot what post I got that off of but I'll go see if I can find it in case any of you needs it!
