Help! Car vibration between 50 - 60 mph

Hi All, new to i-club. forgive me if there is a thread for this already but i haven't found anything yet......

I drive a 2005 FXT, 85k on it. Everything is stock except a CAT back exhaust (although this problem was happen before i put new exhaust on).

I'm getting a pretty bad vibration while accelerating between 50-60 mph, as soon as i take my foot off the pedal it goes away. Basically the whole car vibrating, steering wheel a little only because the car is vibrating. rpm is around 2.5k...... definitely feels like it is coming from the front end, i can even see the front vibrating. Strange thing is I sometimes don't even feel it. definitely feel it more going up a hill.... i always feel it heading up the H3 heading towards Kaneohe. Don't feel it going down hill. thats about all i can think of.......

Any info/help on this would be awesome!!

Thanks!!
Danny

How old are you tires? Sounds to me like a wheel or wheels are out of balance

Hmm not sure how old the tires are, were on the car when i bought it 6 months ago.

I did take it into Subaru for a service last month, not sure how closely they looked at the tires but they said tires were good and had plenty tread on them. I'll get them check out properly.

Would rotating wheels make any difference? Wheels were rotated when it got serviced (last month), vibration still coming from the same place.

Sounds like a stupid, simple fix, but make sure the transmission oil dip stick is fully pushed into the tranny, I had a sound similar to what you explained and finally figured it out yesterday, I must have moved it when I reinstalled my top mount intercooler. Take a look.

If it's completely speed dependent, check wheel balancing. if its rpm related, you could have a motor issue.

I found a new spot. Check where the stand connects to keep your hood propped open, could be the rubber spot where the metal goes in near your passenger side headlight.

Sounds like a wheel/tire balance issue...I've run into this numerous times. Take your wheel to a good shop that gets their machines calibrated on a regular basis...

Sent you a pm

Thanks everyone, been a bit busy to deal with this. But will get onto it soon.

Tren Hard, everything seems fine on both your suggestions.

Going to try and get wheel/tire balance some time next week. Will let you know how that goes.

Sounds more like a drivetrain issue by the way you describe it. Checking the driveshaft would be the easiest first. If it sounds like it's coming from the back, you can try putting the fuse in and run it fwd to see if it makes a difference. I'm not familiar with fxts but I believe auto ones will do it no prob. Check your manual. There's a lot of info on the forester forums.

Could be numerous things:
Engine Mounts- Just do a visual check
Wheels not balanced- have a tire shop fix that
Wheel bearing- Google Wheel Bearing test
Alignment- check out "island brake and alignment."
