If you visit NASIOC the subject has come up several times through the past 3 months with interjections by Prodrive (I forget the handle they use).
Essogas (a regular here) was alos able to corroborate that same info/rumor and was told Prodrive expects to release the STI PPP in levels/stages with 'Stage I' making 30-35 HP (Tq unknown as yet) from minor ECU mods alone.
Myself, 944 and several others I know IRL are all waiting for Prodrive to reale the PPP. Otherwise as SOA is going hardcore on monitoring mods on these cars we will not do any engine/power mods otherwise for fear of warranty invalidation.
Also, because my STi is a corporate lease I can always remove/reverse any add-on's and sell them seperately as a package when I'm done with the car should I decide not to keep it.
I'll make a mental note to loop you specifically as I learn more credible & corroborated information toward Prodrive.
BTW, in case you didn't know earlier this week Prodrive updated their website and announced sale of various Prodrive branded rims manufactured by Rays that are STi specific. They are sweet looking and available in multiple colors (gold, silver, gun metal).
Thats all I've got for now...

how can you regret thep purchase of such a perfornance oriented vehicle on the cheap?
You would be surprised how much noise is attributable to just the stock tires.

ESSOGAS, I think he was referring to road noise and possibly the noise from a light drizzle. He does have a point, I had an S2K, even shutting the doors, you can tell a difference, interior, big difference. However, obviously I bought this car for a reason. Motor and drivetrain. I'm not complaining about the interior or anything else, the STI is a good car, but you are purchasing raw performance, not luxury or anything else, thats what this car is made for. Of course this is all just my own opinion.

Dang, from what people are saying about how much they enjoy their cars, I hope that the education from Stanford that I'll be receiving will pay off. HAHA..
For now, I'll enjoy the simple, but solid 2000 2.5RS that I have right now. But when I save up enough, the next gen Sti maybe. (maybe the Impreza or the Legacy)
Enjoy!

It gets even better...
My father in law just e-mailed me saying that he test drove a Legacy today and liked it alot. He was wondering if I could help him with picking out a model (regular or Legacy GT) and such.
Guess what I just told him...
"Wait ti'll next spring for the redesigned '05 Legacy STi!"
He loves my STi buts its too extreme for his needs/wants though it meets his desires. The Leagacy GT will be perfect for him.
OMG, I'm so psyched.
I see him like every third month when drives down from MA to visit & hang out. With any luck I'll get to have access to both model STi's!!!

Somewhat
Well as Janq details, I may be one of those people who were really looking for an S4 package, but convinced myself the performance was worth it with the Sti... day to day driving the car is fun, but rattles and questionable interior components say this is not even a 30k car to me..... so the G35C it is not, but then again if I'd would have pulled the trigger on that 350z or used Boxster I'd been looking I'd be upset in about 5 months when the winter hits Boston...

icedm3,
You hit the nail right on the head.
I've for years wanted an Audi S4 Avant (the perfect car?!) but refused to pay Audi S4 Avant prices. At $43K I just couldn't pull the trigger. And that was with the dual turbo from the previous generation. This new S4 with the V8 and big box body is a dog.
My STi is my third car and 'toy' for fun.
It won't see the roads during the winter as I have an SUV and Legacy for that. If I were in your shoes and had it as a primary car for commuting, definitely the lows of this car would get on my nerves real quick.
But as you pointed out its the lesser evil as compared to four season life with a Boxster & 350Z.
I wonder how the A4 Avant is doing in the used market.
I'll have to visit Edmunds.com.

Janq, Hmmmm, this prodrive power pack you speak of... perhaps we should wait for it; that way we will know it works and is compatible and trouble free. What do you think? Maybe I will hold off for it, then buy it and have it installed! Ooooh, I'm getting excited thinking about it.

ROAD NOISE
OH MY GOD, anyone that thinks this car does not have road noise is living in denial. On bad roads its hard to have a conversation. In bad rain and bad roads you have to turn the stereo up to deal with the fact you paid 32K for a car thats this loud.
Since i had the car stereo put in im afraid to turn it down because i cant deal with all the little rattles.
IN FACT, my girl friend is always saying what are you thinking about and i say, nothing i was just trying to see where this rattle is coming from. Ha, just today we were coming back from an autocross race and it was raining very hard and we kept laughing becasue it was so dam loud. We were going "what, say that again".
Look i love the car. Its a pure bred racing machine. One of a kind, well except the EVO. Ok two of a kind. But its one LOUD DAM CAR ON BAD ROADS.
If you say otherwise, YOU ARE NOT TELLING THE TRUTH!

Money,
You did know that the STi comes with no as in zero noise reduction/cancelling material, right?
That stuff was left out all in the name of saving weight, which increases the power to weight ration and ultimately keeps the CAFE ratings in the black.
I don't have a radio in my car, and probably never will, nor do I miss not having one. I love to hear the rocks bouncing amongst the wheel wells and the whine of the transmission. That my friend is music to my own ears.
But like bluegrass, opera, or booty bass, it ain't for everyone.
BTW, I like and appreciate all of the above.
