regretting STI?
I think that the only people regretting anything should be Subaru. They initially said that the price of the car would be less than $35k because I (and others) would of paid more than $31.5k for it.
No but really. I am sure that there are some people that bought the car and realized that it wasn't what they were looking for. The were looking for something that was along the lines of an S4 or M3; a car that is fast, quiet, comfortable, and luxurious. However, the STi came with only one of the items listed above.

ESSOGAS, I think he was referring to road noise and possibly the noise from a light drizzle. He does have a point, I had an S2K, even shutting the doors, you can tell a difference, interior, big difference. However, obviously I bought this car for a reason. Motor and drivetrain. I'm not complaining about the interior or anything else, the STI is a good car, but you are purchasing raw performance, not luxury or anything else, thats what this car is made for. Of course this is all just my own opinion.

I agree with slo, the car is all about the performance. It doesn't even come with a stereo! I love this car.
Only regret - not getting a stereo or speakers put in.
The seats are comfortable though. I know ppl who paid 40k for the G35C and still didn't get the performance that the STI has.

A well equipped G35C 6MT is only $32K plus maybe the rear wing ($800). The 6MT is known not to be as fast or quick as the STi as its gearing is longer but its no slouch either at just under a second slower in all numbers. The automatic version of the G35 is much slower but even still its no dog.
Go to this thread for a complete detail on the two greatly differing G35 C models; https://www.i-club.com/forums/showth...&highlight=g35
Anyone who pays $32K for a car with no radio, sound deadening, mats and cheap thin carpeting is obviously looking for something other than luxury performance. Converesly one who buys a G35C is looking for a mix of luxury & performance in a high value package, and they get just that.

Well said Janq, my thoughts exactly, I was in the market for an M3 or a G35 coupe 6mt before for those exact reasons. Also, in my own opinion, the m3 and g35 looks much better. To me, the STI is all performance with (hopefully) much more potential.....

It's well known that I was, and still am, a big supporter of the G35C 6MT as the best luxury performance 'Gran Touring' option out there for the money. The M3 is of course the 'gold standard' but for $18K less I'd take the G and buy a Mini Cooper or a Ducatti 900 Monster with the change.
I went with the STi because I'm on e of those people that although I enjoy and appreciate luxury, the drving force for me is absolute perfromance. As such I went with the STi and in hind sight would do it again.
The STi though is more comparable though to the S4, S6, 540 and other gold standard M5 as its really a 'super sport' touring sedan. I had originally been planning to get an M5 for the past four years but the economy collapse and the birth of my daughter last December forced me to reasses my wants & needs.
As such I get better performance than the M5 (other than max speed which is of no use to me here in NoVA) at nearly one third the acquisition cost. Yes, I miss out on leather, PDC, CD based NAV, a radio and the BMW owner mystique but thats okay as all that obviously was not most important to me.
I've been dreaming of the M5 (and still am) since its debut in '87 for its pure bred sport performance. With the STi I got just that only minus the fat.
Sometimes as they say less is more.
When Prodrive releases its 'Power Pack' (PPP) stages for the STI in Q4 its rumored that it'll bump the STi up to 400/400 CHP (!). Now if the total of those upgrades costs as much as $10K (most likely less), we'll still be ahead of the game as the M3 runs $53K base saving us roughly $10K while the M5 retails for $69K base, assuming of course you can find a base M3 or M5. And it'll cost alot more than $10K for an M3/M5 owner to increase their cars performance by an equal 33% in order to keep up. Dinan engine mods do not come cheaply nor do they typically or easily bolt on under a shade tree as do STi/Prodrive products.
The only thing regrettable thing about an STi is that Subaru didn't bring it here sooner and that there is no such version for the Legacy (yet).
