It's kinda offtopic, but anyway - the only ways to reduce the lag are blowoff valves (which doesn't get rid of it, but makes the boost come back sooner after a shift) or sequential turbos (too much work & $$ for most people).
What I do is just rev it to what would have been insane rpms for a launch rpms in a muscle car (3-4k). Peak torque is @ 4k so launching there seems to be good for me, but it's hard on the clutch. Power range is 3-6krpm, if you keep it in there you'll be good.
You said you only had 300 miles on it? I wouldn't push it until it had been broken in (800-1k miles).
The first mod i'm looking at will be turbo back exhaust or BOV. Right now I'm doing sound deadening and stereo/computer setup.

He told me he did a rally with his STI at 500 miles on his machine.
His reasoning is behind the computer. Training the computer now about my driving habbits. You cant do that later unless you re-flash.
