Pros and Cons
Pro's
Performance. The car seems likes a rocket ship. Even though I cant fully open her up. Im a very impressed by the pull of this machine. Ill update after the break in.
Handling. No question about it this car handles 150% better than the Camaro. Again even though i havent open it to her full potential Im an able to take 90 degree turns at like 40 mph powering out just at the end of the apex without a tire noise. Very sweet.
AWD. A big plus in the rain, even with the slicks that come stock with this machine. My Camaro would be all over the road in the rain while im able to cruise at 80mph without a care in the world.
Con's
*** car. I don’t mean this is a bad way, But I’ve been driving American muscle my whole life. But on the other hand it took the power of this machine to draw me in.
Tin feeling. The car just doesn’t seem as solid as the Camaro. I feel as if she will fall apart in 20,000k Please tell me im wrong.
Stick. I really think the Camaro had a better stick. The STI feels very loose and makes a lot of noise shifting. First gear is hard to get into and I feel like I have to work it to get it in there without having a clinking noise. Is this normal or should I talk to the dealer to adjust the linkage?
Exhaust. My Camaro had much more of a throaty muscle car sound while this cars has more of a buzzing whining sound. At idle she sounds sweet, even at low rpm the car is deep enough sounding for me. Exhaust mods for me I think.
That’s about it. Im am so far VERY satisfied with this machine. I have also never had so many compliments on a car. Even when im driving a heritage muscle car, I never got this many thumbs up or people pullin next to me just to find out what im drivin..

propain nice car, love your SS and ur STi. but if i were u and i got the new STi , i dont understand how u can say the cons are that its a *** car, and how u say it feels like tin and gona fall apart at 20,000K, i think i can explain the tin feeling you mean, a lot of japanese cars are like that, they make their cars very light and in the WRX family's case, quite strong. weight is a very important factor when **** make their cars thats why they are so fast and such great handling. american cars r very muscular, but u noticed it weighs a great deal more. trust me, your STi will last u basically for the rest of your life as long as u take good care of it. its funny u say cons that its a *** car, *** cars are way more reliable than american cars. besides u will be saving more gas then ur camaro =) and now u can run low 13's stock, simple bolt ons give u 12's. juicy eh.
i have a 04 wrx, i think i know what u mean about the first gear being hard to shift into. see the thing is i discovered, is there is a click that u feel, i feel it to, but u have to use a special hand grab and push to shift into 1st easily, u cant just take t he stick and throw it in how u would with the camaro, ur STi is AWD and the stick and clutch are VERY sensitive and take precision, ull get the hang of it, i was having trouble wen i first had my wrx, but now i got it down, u goto use the same technique constanyly and consitently. , the WRX and sti will always have sounds, its coming from the horizontally opposed TURBOCHARGED engine so dont worry about it, its not supposed to be a quite luxury car, its a race car, its a monster, dont expect the beast to breath quitely. anyways, u got an awesome car man. by the way how old r u ?

oh yea, to help you out hopefully, the stick thing, it takes more technique with the hand and motion and i repeat CONSISTENTLY than any other cars because of its power and awd and u turbo. also the stick is made so u wont blow ur motor as easily such as if u were redlining in 3rd gear and r going to shift to 4th, but u accidently shift to 2nd, thatll blow ur motor but dont worri cause the STi and WRX shifters are so easy to shift into gears like u said so before u enter that gear u can feel if ur gona be ok or not. dont worry u just still breaking it in and exploring, i say you will know your car perfectly at 4000miles.

oh yea and u kno u cant shift into 1st when ur car is rolling, always shift into 2nd if u are rolling slowly.but its a really really slow roll, u are allowed to go into 1st. anyways im sure u kno wat i mean. you will kik booty

Good to know about shifting into first. I was downshifting into first at first because it was what I was used to.
But I soon found out that the gears are very short and driving slow down a side street i just downshift to second and start from there. Stop signs ect...

The car is made & sold by a 'Japanese' company not by a "***", which is FWIW a derogatory WWII term. Same as BMW's are made by a German firm, not 'Krauts'. Today we live in a world economy and it matters not so much the origin of your auto purchase as it does the build quality.
The Impreza chassis is very solid.
In fact one of the most solid production vehicles on the road. Much more solid than the Camaro. A Camaro is heavy & dense but that does not indicate solidity. The Mercury Grand Marquis is heavy & solid and also 'feels' solid, but its common knowledge that it ain't.
As you are new to Subaru I'll tell you as a life time owner and former employee that all Subaru's with the exception of the 'SVX' (another heavy & dense feeling car) have a relatively light construction as compared to domestics of comparable size (which the Camaro is not). The Impreza in specific is an extremely rigid chassis and like all Subaru's will put up with the very worst of conditions that you can throw at its most typical for Subie's tostay 'alive' for 100K miles and more. Meanwhile most Camaro's with their heavy doors are swayign and bending at as little at 30K miles. Don't believe me though, just visit your local Chevy service dept. and ask other owners.
The shifter on the STi does make a lot of noise but part of that noise is due to the var having no sound insulation or dampening material. The Camaro comes with 100's of lbs of relatively thick & plush carpeting which damps transmission and shifter sound. The shifter itself is notchy and has been reported as such by nearly everyone. As for being able to get into gears, its very stiff when new but noticeably loosens up during break in. Mine took almost 2K miles before it got to be 'real nice' and I stopped misshifting.
The exhaust sound is not comparable to a V8, especially a dual exhaust V8. At idle the exahaust is relatively silent and quite restrained. Useful for those of us that live in neighborhoods and not on tracts of land by ourselves. It wakes up at speed but in a subdued 'less is more' mode that doesn't announce your presence blocks ahaed of your actual arrival. But it does give a growl that says "Don't jack with me!". Kind of like a big dog that knows it's big, the STi doesn't need to bark....she just grumbles, then bites. Of couse aftermarket exhausts can be fitted if you absolutely need a loud rumble in your ears.
There is no buzzing sound in an STi while that whining sound you hear is the turbo spooling up and making power. Its a lovely sound but its not all that perceptible to those outside of your car. From the drivers seat though it sounds better than 'Flight of the Valkyrie' as you flash to pass grumbly & rumbly Yankee built Camaro's.
The STi is an entirely different driving experience as compared to the Camaro you had. It'll take some time to adjust to its differences. But do know your choice is an upgrade not a lateral move.
