IMHO, the only thing keeping the STI on the pavement are the 17" wheels with summer tires. Throw on some 16's with All-seasons and it will work just fine in the dirt, the STI suspension is not as stiff as you think Janq.

What about minimum front lip, axle & muffler ground clearance, range of motion per wheel (shock & axle articulation), and for that matter actually finding a narrow wheel that will clear the rotors & calipers.
Have you a line on 16" rims that will actually provide enough clearance? I've searched and haven't found a viable option as yet.

hey
i would look at the type c front cover. it is not as low, and has more clearance. proly not that hard to et from japan.
axle and muffler clearance are only 1/2 lower than the stock wrx. you can always get a magnaflow that has more clearance, and flows better.
there are steelies that will fit. they make tem for the RA in japan. i would gander that the stock RS wheels will fit, and someone (tirerack) will have a winter set up. there are others that make 16s that might fit. i forgot there name at the moment, but a custome wheels shop on colorado makes some nice wheels that look just like the stock 2.5 RS wheels, and have huge brake clearance. and they are strong and reletively cheap.
there are options, and in time, the aftermarket will catch up with your needs.

idiotic repost (can't stop meself)
F-350 is not a work truck, it's a light commercial truck. You want a work truck get a F-650/750. Like what the tree cutters use to haul all the stuff they cut down during a day at the office in sonoma county.
How do I know? I talk to the owner every once in a while. His work trucks are parked on my grandpa-in-law's property. Everytime I go over to fix grandpa's computer, eat diner, whatever, there are the guys 4 F series trucks. Actually, he has 2 F-650s towing woodchippers, a small F-450, and a F-350 (which doesn't haul much).
By the way, this guy has one "fun" truck just for mud racing, which he always places, and almost always wins.
As for the STI, I hope to heck people either use the parts (trans, engine, etc.) in their older cars, AND people actually rally their STI. That way, when I can actually afford one, there are options for me, that doesn't want a tarmac only AWD car.
First thing I did to my ancient 01RS is take it swimming in mud during the rain, almost ran into a light pole, and almost got stuck in mud. Took me 30 minutes just to get all the mud off. Plus scratch the heck underneath the car. I loved when I could swap ends in an empty field, that was went. Pissed off my neighbors big time. I have really bad pictures of me dring in the grass/mud.

^^Say what you will. As far as I'm concerned the 350 IS a work truck. It can be a fun truck as well, but it definitely hauls. I use them and have no trouble with them. Thanks.

my work saturn sl2 and work 88 mustang lx 5.0 were great vehicles. used to haul computers, monitors and printers, quite often. could put several hundred lbs of work inside each. did phenominal jobs as work cars.
god, i love people that argue with idiots, can't you see i love myself???
