break in period

what does it mean when you have break in period on a car? I got the STI ANd have'nt really got on it yet cause I hear all these rumors about a break in time. I've gottin on in a few just to feel the power but that was it hopefully I have'nt damaged it. I'll wait to 1,000 I guess?

READ THE OWNERS MANUAL!!!!
It tells you right in the manual all about the break in period. This isn't a $200 DVD player that you just plug in and go. Read the manual before going any further.

I've read that, and all I'll say is this. Motorcycle engines don't run for 100,000+ miles. Once you get to 50k it's time to seriously thin about a rebuild. I want my engine to last longer than that.
