What are my options?

I have an '03 wagon, stock setup w/the factory sub upgrade thats under the passenger seat. I think the factory sub is a joke...I'd like to add an aftermarket sub... So here's the deal...am I going to have any problems installing a sub since I have the factory sub wiring going under the seat? A friend of mine told me all I needed was a box and an amp. Will the stock mids and tweets be enough? I'd like to keep the stock HU but I am open to any ideas. What are my options?
Thanks in advance...

If you want to keep your stock HU, you can get a line out converter that converts speaker level outputs to the RCA's that you need to hook up an amp. Then you can just unplug the stock subwoofer and you're good to go.

As far as the stock mids and highs being enough, that depends on what you're going to put in the trunk. If you plan on putting something monster back there, then they probably won't be. If you just want something simple but better than the stock sub, then you'll probably be OK.

I kept the stock HU and used LOC's. It sounds pretty good (not great) with the stock speakers up front. I agree with VR that if you're going for a killer system, the fronts need to be replaced. I decided the stock speakers sound good enough for now (well, good enough that it doesn't warrant spending money on new door speakers) but when I replace them, I'll dynamat the doors and probably put in new speaker wire, I think the stock wire is only 20 gauge. I have a 12" sub in back. My amp (5 channel) allows for adjustment of everything and that has helped to get the most out of my stock speakers.

Thanks for all the help...but I have a few more questions...Where would I hook up the LOC? Can I use the wires that go to the factory sub? Does anybody have a wiring diagram or pin out of the factory sub connector?
I have a 12" Infinity Reference that I plan install...What amp would be best for that speaker. Where would be the best place to run the lines.

I have my LOC's installed under the dash near the radio so when I replace the HU, it'll be easier to hook them up. They run under the carpet along the driver side of the car. A diagram for the wiring harness is on ravensblade.com. Go to modifications--interior--miscellaneous. I cut into the 14 pin harness to hook mine up, don't know if you can hook it up via the sub connector.

Here's a diagram to the wiring harness of the HU.

To hook up the LOC, you just have to hook it up to the positive and negative of a speaker, and the third to the number 14 pin on that diagram.

You cannot use the wiring for the stock sub. After you hook up the LOC, just unplug the stock sub and you're good to go.
