Spare tire cutout volume.

Has anyone done a measurement of the the impreza spare tire area so it can be used as a sub enclosure (in fiberglass of course)? From eyeballing it it looks to be about 2 cu. ft. or so. I've seen the enclosure another member has done keeping the spare, but I am interested in using the whole space. If no one has anything, I guess I'll lug bottles of water downstairs and fill it up

Good idea, but I have a garden hose and no peanuts at home

No big deal, I'd have to clean it out anyway.

I also added water to my finished fiberglass enclosure that I constructed. It's still sitting there unused since I bought pre-fabricated enclosures for my car. Anyway, I forgot what the volume was, but it's not very large at all -- definitely (way) less than .7ft^3 of space.

Just finished testing this.

The spare tire well in the STI holds an amazing 60 quarts of water.

That is almost exactly 2 cubic feet of space. Even removing a small amount for fiberglass and the area the speaker occupies, you are still looking at around 1.7 cubic feet. Not bad!

you really shouldn't need calculus to calculate the volume. i can't remeber exactly how it's shaped but isn't it basically a half circle on top of a square a few inches deep? it is slightly inclined on the edges so you can just measure your widths at the halfway point. should be pretty accurate. i'll check tonight.
