turbo lag from the remote start module????

How is that possible? The remote start module is shut off when you get in the car, put your key in the ignition and step on the brake.

 

I'm still trying to find a remote start that will work with a manual trans...all the ones I've seen are for auto trans only. Boy, a remort start sure would be nice to have with winter on the way.

 

Any remote start module will work with a manual. The problem is finding a shop that'll install it. The shop I use to work at made a legal disclaimer stating that if you start it in gear, any damage caused by that is not our fault and we cannot be held responsible.
I've been looking at the latest Compustar alarm. That is actually designed to remote start a manual. A lot of the newer remote start modules are starting to use this. Here's how it works for manuals....with the car still running, the e-brake on, and it's in neutral you hit a button or switch for the alarm to activate the remote start. Take the keys out of the ignition and exit the car. Note: it'll still be running. Arm your car and the ignition will shut off, and you'll be able to remote start the car. Basically, it makes sure you have the car in neutral with the e-brake on. Ya dig?

 

There are a couple companies that make alarms suited for manuals. The one I've been looking at is from Compustar

The model I'm going to order later this month is the 2WSS-AS. It's a two way alarm with remote start. This particular series of alarms uses spread spectrum for awesome range. It's the first alarm on the market to use the ISM band (900MHz) which allows for higher transmitting power, up to 1W. I think it's kinda lame that they state it uses spread spectrum. Any radio using the ISM band has a requirement from the FCC to use some type of spread spectrum.

In my opinion, this is the best alarm you can get. Don't get me wrong I like DEI products, but the type of radio transmitter the Compustar uses compared to their competition is unmatched.

 

That sucks. I've always had a remote start in my car since I was 16. But I live in WA state and it's really not a big deal here.

So why is it illegal? Even if the remote start is build for a manual car why would it still be illegal? I don't see the logic in that.

 

and how will the vehicle inspector know you have a remote
start in your vehicle? do you 'tell' him/her that you have one?

I've been using an Aladdin 2000 2-way remote start and it works great. Even with the antenna mounted under the clock in the dashboard, I still get up to a 1000 foot range. It does have a manual mode where you have to do that exit sequence if you want to be able to remote start. Then I changed it to automatic mode and connected the factory's neutral position sensor into one of the Aladdin's spare alarm inputs. No more stupid exit sequence, she'll start as long as she's in neutral. I heard the Compustar is good too, I'm sure you could do the same with it.

 

I also installed a solenoid in the trunk so I can pop it open from the remote. I hate having to use a key in anything but the ignition! Highly recommended if you use your trunk more often than once in a while.

 

This reminds me of a really funny story. Less than a year ago a friend of mine bought a used early 90's Mustang with a manual transmission. It had some mods and looked pretty sweet. Well, apparently the alarm system had some problems. The alarm system had some strange interaction with other peoples keychain remotes and would arm/disarm/alarm when they used their keychains nearby. Sooo, you see where this is going.

One day my friend was out having dinner with some other friends. When he left the restaurant, he found his mustang across the street ramming repeatedly into the side of somebodies truck. The Mustang was originally parked on the street behind a minivan, but had started automatically and climbed up onto the sidewalk, scraped its way down the right side of the minivan (really screwing up the bodies on both vehicles) then made its way around the front of the minivan and across the street where it was ramming repeatedly into the truck. What a mess. Keep this in mind when you are considering installing remote starting on a manual transmission car.
