I Need Me Some New Speakers
So yeah.
I've just realized how sucky these stock speakers are in my WRX.
Any recommendations from you guys on what speakers I should get? Nothing too fancy though..Something a tad bit louder than stock would be great.

most people will tell you that headunit needs to go first, your stock speakers will sound much better with more power. If you're set on changing the speakers what is your price range?

Agreed, the stock head unit only pushes out about 8w / channel so even aftermarket speakers will distort at medium levels. You may want to consider just the head unit and front speakers initially if you are on a tight budget and work outwards from there.

Ahhhh I thought it was the speakers..I was not aware it was the head unit. Hmmmm..In that case...
What would you guys recommend as far as best bang for your buck.

New HU is always good, if you like the stock one though, an amp would be good. I have the stock HU and have an amp giving me 75X4 to the speakers. I have a sub so the sound is acceptable. W/o the sub, quality speakers would help a lot, if they have enough power.

The pioneer 7600 or the premeir 760 are pretty nice ones these days, offering dot matrix OEL screens and MP3 playback. If you have a bigger budget, consider the 8600 or 860, which feature an auto eq calibration to fill in the specific gaps in frequency response for your car. The premier units will offer a few more features than the pioneer units at each level, and usually don't cost too much more.
i disagree. maybe i'm old school.
but buy the headunit for the features, not for power.
that's what an amplifier is for.
first, buy the best speaker (you can afford). then buy the best amp that matches the power to that speaker.

if you are on a bodget, get a head unit with good power output, since you will most likely not use any external amps.
Best bag of the buck is probably Alpine, go down to your local shop. SHOP around, and talk to the sales person, make sure they are not ripping you off.

I got an open box Alpine CDA-9827 for $165 @ circuit city, normally retails for about $200 online http://froogle.google.com/froogle?q=...b=wf&scoring=p
.
After adding that, and a single12" Infinity 1230w sub woofer, my system sounds much better. I am going to upgrade the speakers soon though, just waiting a while so I dont go broke. =)
