Tire recommendations
Tire recommendations
I have a WRX wagon with stock tires and about 18k miles.
The tires have about half the tread life left on them.
I picked up a screw in the sidewall of the left rear tire and my mechanic says the tire is toast. The Subaru owners manual says not to replace one tire and I can't afford four tires now.
Any suggestions?

The reason why you need to replace all four tires is because you will ruin the differential if you run tires of a different size. Even if the tires aren't worn down the same, and there is 18k miles on each tire except for one, it won't destroy the diff immediately, but over time it will. So play it safe and save up for new tires.

Val is right.
I'm a big fan of Falken.
Rock the Azenis Sport RS', if you're low on cash - they're super grippy with a huge contact patch (it makes for a slightly louder freeway ride, but definitely worth the tradeoff for better performance). Downside? 200 treadwear.
If you have a little extra cash, spring for the Azenis ST115's. Amazing wet and dry tire, long lasting - 360 treadwear.
I have a set of both. ST115's for daily driving, and unmounted Sport RS' for Qualcomm.
Having a good set of tires is VERY, VERY important for your own safety. Rock good tires.

Hi Kym,
Thanks for the tip, but I already picked up a used RE92 with about the same amount of treadwear. Now I have some time to save for a set of four.
Thanks
Andy
