Atten Ed: i think i have solved your problem with your computer being extremely sucky and unable to transcode 1080p videos!

I present: Java Ps3 Media Server v1.04!
one of the functions of it allows you to copy a transcoded video to ur ps3, which allows your ps3 to play the video using its own processor!
Result is you get to watch ur 1080p HD videos on ur ps3, only downside is your HD will be filled very quickly and it may take awhile to copy it over to the ps3

but hey! 500gb for 100 bucks

i notice on the new verision the video quality got better.
but even on my laptop now with core 2 duo sometimes there is lag in the video stream.
It take 10-15 second for buffer to catch up again

i think it depends how fast your computer will transcode the video
10gb probably 8+ hours.. LOL

you should try transferring between computers on your network.. it's never that fast.
I transfer alot of files between my desktop and laptop both wired.
Conceptually yes 10/100 router should be that fast, but it really isn't.

Plus i don't think the media center can transcode the video that fast.
