High RPM Shifts, ok??

I like to shift in the 7 grand RPM range when I am in 2nd or 3rd, is this too hard on the motor. I do not do this all the time. My car is a 03 WRX with only 6500 miles.Anyone else like to shift this way? if so is your engine holding up?

I have 25k on mine and shift between 6 and 7 all the time...I don't have problems.
I asked someone abuot this once and the answer sounded good to me (as in I iked it) - Why would your poerband fall into this range if it were bad for the motor?
So....do as you will.

As long as you're within your warranty, I think you'll be fine. As for how your driving is affecting your car's longevity, of course you're putting a lot more wear on the engine and powertrain if you run the revs really high before you shift. That all being said, I think it's the only fun way to drive...

You can do it.
Just remember that every second your car spends at a higher rpm ultimately reduces your motors lifespan. The redline is there as a safety precaution so you dont blow up your motor, not as a safe range to drive your car in. Once in a while its ok, but don't do it all the time. Be nice.

Sure, it's okay. As for wear and tear at 7000 RPM vs lower engine speeds - why not shift at 8000 RPM? It's only 1000 RPM higher.
Redline RPM is the absolute safe limit recommended by Subaru. Power on a stock vehicle has already dropped off well before that point so there's not much reason to rev that high before shifting.
What's the harm in revving 7000 or higher? Engine load on parts such as connecting rods, rod pins, piston rings, and the valvetrain increases exponentially with RPM, not linearly. What this means is that the stress on your engine at 7000 RPM may be four times greater than at 3500 RPM.
But, like the old saying goes, "If it feels good, do it!"
EDIT: As a matter of fact, my daily driving is pretty sedate. Only at touge-type drives do I keep revs in the 3500 - 6000 RPM range, and at the drags I shift at 7000 RPM from 1st to 2nd, and 6500 RPM for the other gearchanges.
