I say take the word marriage out of the state constitution completely, make hetero, and homosexual marriages civil unions, and be done with it.

As you all have said, "marriage" refers to the religious aspect of the union, so get it the **** out of there.

 

This is a sad day for California. Hate and ignorance backing a terrible proposition and out of state interests spending money on campaigns to lie using children to force their interests on a state that doesnt want them.

 

So we should change ALL titles that dont get married in church is what your saying sigma? Gay or straight.. if you dont get married in a church its a civil union. I dont believe in church, so when me and the future Mrs. Shagon Wagon get married, it should be a civil union.. we technically aren't married we have a civil union? What about other church's (other than catholic) should they be called marriages still? Should marriage be confined to catholism or just any church ??

It was a sad day when the ninth turned this over. It was a sad day when this bill was put on the ballot. It's a joyful day when democracy beats fascism. It's apparent who should be conforming. The queers will have to learn that not everyone can have their cake and eat it too.

 

The whole not wanting your kids to be "taught gay marrige" in school excuse is ridiculous.

There are things that I don't want my kids learning at school, but I am not willing to insert segregation into our state constitution. I don't want my kids cussing or learning bad habits from other kids at school, but it is going to happen.

I just have to be a good parent and do my part and take responsibility to teach them what I think is right. I don't think that's so hard. It's certainly not worth denying other people "rights" to make my parenting job minutely easier.

Oh, it's SO hard to teach my kids what's right. Poor me.

 

If they are all the same, whats the draw back to having a civil union rather than a marriage? All I'm suggesting, is that the term marriage has nothing to do with the actual union, just with your church. If I get married on a cruise ship, am I less married and someone that got married in a church by a priest? No, its just stupid title.

Yeah, apparently its OK for non religious people to be married even though marriage is a religious bond, just not those damn gays and lesbians. People who claim marriage is a religious ceremony obviously do not know how to interpret legalese because marriage is a legal proceeding, which is why you can be married in a court house by a judge, not a religious ceremony.

Well, that is what decided it for me and my hanging point on prop 8. I don't want kids to have their education revolving around LBGT issues. They have other things to learn. Namely math, science, and english. I could see them folding that into english classes or world studies or history. However, as long as they don't make that as a focal point of the course, I'm ok with voting no. The controls should be in place if a teacher decides to deviate from that course.

 

Marriage is only taught in sex education, and you do have the right to remove your child from sex education taught in public schools. Therefore if you do not want your child being taught about gay marriage you do have the right to remove them from that course of study.

 

Its Not Taught In Schools ! Oh My God ! In What Grade Did The Teacher Sit You Down And Talk About Hetro Marriage???? Maybe It Was Just My School..... But I Was Never Taught Marriage At School !
