Here's how the transmission effective gear ratio heat map changes assuming the 2007 STI has a 3.54 final drive:

The (probably wrong) source that I used for all of my other numbers shows that the USDM Legacy Spec B trans has the same gearing at the JDM Forester STI (which I show in my spreadsheet).

But yes, 2006 STi had 3.54 R180 rear diffs.

See link below. Again.
It was off.

Tell Vlad it's 3.54. He said it was 3.9.

Yeah that's not remotely correct lol. The spec.B 6spd has 07 sti 1-4 with a longer 5th and 6th.

If you want some gear graph ****...

https://forums.nasioc.com/forums/sho....php?t=2466977

Even mentions that typical cost on used R180 is $400-500. That's the **** I'm having a hard time finding.

BTW, just because I'm old and probably blind... Where are you guys seeing the Rallipec doc pointing to a 3.54 FD ratio vs. 3.90?

I see a 3.54 reverse transmission gear ratio shown, but not as a final drive.

I never looked at that very closely... It seems that 3.54 FD isn't on the list at all.

Subaru started using a 1.1:1 output on the 6spds so in order for the actual final drive ratio to match the front final drive and the rear final drive are different. Cars with a 3.90 front final drive and the 1.1:1 reduction got a 3.54 rear differential.

That makes sense! I was wondering how they were going to have different front and rear ratios without a constantly slipping center diff...

Interesting, I didn't realize the Forester got a 6spd in jdm land.

Either way spec.B/FSTI gearing is my favorite Subaru gearing.

Have you considered a 5-speed with low range 2nd gear set?

I hear they are big down-under.
