IIRC there are plenty of existing oil rights that have not been explored or are not being currently drilled. Why open up more in a wilderness area when the rights that are out there are not being exploited?
Also, opening up new drilling will not affect prices very much anyway and even if it does, it won't be for another 10 years anyway. I think it's silly to think that opening up drilling in Alaska is going to somehow magically fix gas prices.
I heard a radio commercial criticizing opposition to drilling in Alaska. It basically said that the opposition is what caused the "oil crisis".
I want another goddam presidential candidate option.
