Gahhhhh!!!!! How do Californians afford to pay there electric/gas bills. We just got ours today in it's $415ish. It was $178 the month before. We haven't even used 2X the power. They have a stupid exponential chart that they use to calc the utilities out with.
*grab ankles and prepares for PG&E to stuck a rusty 18 wheeler in my anus*
This is bull crap.

Was that your portion of the bill or the total bill?
I miss the days of living down town in a 525 SF apt. My electric bill in July/August never even hit $30.
It's time to sell rocks to pay the bills.

Holy ****. What are you keeping your thermostat at - we usually keep ours (it's programmable) between 68 - 73 (it has to be cold for me to sleep) and ours averages like $190.

****! our thermostat is set to 74. I remember you saying you guys always keep yours at constant, not higher when you're gone. Are you with SMUD or PG&E for electric?

68-78 here. I fine tune the **** out of it and found the edges of comfort. But do anything other than sit like a sack of potatos and it's too hot.
If you don't use a room then keep that door closed and shut it's vent.
PG&E has a program that lets you pay your average monthly bill so you don't get hit with a sudden spike. I suggest you look into that.

We just adjusted ours to 78. I hope we'll be able to sleep tonight. 74 is usually just at the edge of warmth. If we do any vigorous activity in the house, then we're boiling hot.
Josh says maybe a generator to make it affordable or maybe solar panels on our rental.
