Does Smud break out the kilowatt useage into percentile tiers? PG&E does, and they are some vicious ones.

You'd have to save a lot of money all at once or a little money monthly over a long period to offset the cost of the generator.

I know they do a tiered setup but I'm not sure how it works. I just get the bill and pay it usually. This month I cried a little before paying it - I think $190 is the record.

If you don't use a room then keep that door closed and shut it's vent.

PG&E has a program that lets you pay your average monthly bill so you don't get hit with a sudden spike. I suggest you look into that.
Good thinking. Office gets shut down... it's the only room that we don't use. We'll have to look into that PG&E average thing.

Sorry to hear about the lack of vigorous activity Josh

I don't think that's very vigorous, I hear Josh just lays there for 30 seconds and yells "SHAZAM!!!" when he's done.

Yeah, ours is at 78, but we don't usually turn it on until after 4 or so.

On a related note, I went to look for a fan today and EVERYWHERE was sold out. Walmart, which I thought would be my "go to" place said, " we don't have any and we won't be getting anymore. It is the end of our season."

Whatever that means... oh well.

I miss the days of living down town in a 525 SF apt. My electric bill in July/August never even hit $30.

It's time to sell rocks to pay the bills.
It was the entire bill, I and my roommate keep the thermostat set at between 76 and 78 degrees. Anything less than 76 and we freeze to death. We hardly get any light in the house, the shades are thick and wide and cover the whole window, plus we noticed the insullation is excellent. The garage stays at like 100 degrees, which my room is right next too, and I get no radiant heat effect in my room, and its a one story house, no trees, no tall buildings, so no shade effect either. Just lucky I guess.
