you actually can. 7.5.1 changed a TON of things.

deleting dupes is pretty easy now too.

I just went through 50GB(+) of music a few weeks ago. It was pretty painless. I mean....the amount of dupes...sucked, and the deletes I had to do/playlist creation was no fun.

I tag and organize my MP3's outside of iTunes, then once they're organized in the folder how I like, then I drop them into the iTunes library and turn off the option to auto-organize the files, and I haven't had any problems.

If Apple wants me to use iTunes, they have to give up on getting me to switch to AAC format, stop reorganizing my folders, and not create duplicates of anything, ever. Just find my music files, catalog them, and sort them in playlists for me when I ask it to. That's it. If it does that now, I'll give it another try.

Check out MediaMonkey for tagging, it has an "Auto-tag from Amazon.com" feature and works fairly well that will automagically find the album info (most of the time) and embed high-quality album art. The only problem is that I haven't figured out a way to get it to auto-tag multiple albums at the same time, so I just tag the albums one at a time, it's a little tedious, but I usually don't add more than a couple albums at a time. MediaMonkey also has an "Auto-Organize Files" feature that I use to standardize the naming of the albums/files.

Type A much?
