YAY for being in Vegas on my works dime and stuck in a room with those folks for 12 hours at a off strip casino
The benefits are pretty cool though, there is like 7 health plans to pick from. I personally really like Kaiser about 90% of the time. It is all about finding the right Dr. and knowing how to work the system. You will find that with any health plan though. I call my OB and he gets me in that day if I am having problems. Most health plans don’t cover OB visits for pregnancy till about 12 weeks (private practice docs won’t see you till then either). I had seen my OB 3 times by 12 weeks plus had 3 ultrasounds already. Far superior coverage, IMO. Rates just went up at the new year, I think it is $7.50 a month now for me and Scott and when we add the baby it will be like $9. They have like 3 blue shield plans and stuff but those were all closer to $100 a month plus only covered either 70% or 80% of all costs.

Thanks for the info on the health coverages. I am still wading through it... not used to having so many options.

For all of you who are complaining about a lack of benefits and retirement, I've said it before and I'll say it again:
LOOK AT WHAT IS AVAILABLE WITH THE STATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You won't get rich, but you will have some significant job security, plus a pretty good retirement. And, I would think they're really needing IT & System Admin types, which it seems that many of you guys have the skills for.
Pay a visit to the State Personnel Board website in your spare time-
www.spb.ca.gov. See if you want to take one of the tests. If nothing else, getting on a state employment list is just another option in your overall employment strategy.
