Hehe. $3K is a lot of money.... That's a whole front clip or.... a tranny.... or 3/4 of a LIC A/T to M/T swap.... Or an old '93 Impreza L. Hehe.

I am just trying to keep my options open.

Yeah. I wish I could rush in... but I don't have even $5k lying around. Probably end of the year at earliest. I guess it is time to start saving.

yea definently dont rush...take it easy...you could always gather parts and have a shop do labor...the labor rate i believe is the same between GT and LIC, but labor may be different depending if you stray from stock
for me...it looks like i may do the swap just not with my car though

I think conceptually, I got it all. Technically, I am as dumb as... well.. you know. I've popped the hood a few times to take a look to see what there is... but never really messed with anything. I definitely would like to learn how to do other things. I'll start small and work my way up.

haha you sound like me...once i get more familiar with my car and how it works i get more comfortable with wrenching on it, take your time and enjoy it! but be warned...if you take on the daunting task of doing the wiring yourself for the swap and you arent familiar with reading electrical schematics/wire diagrams or have a good understanding of electronics...well then its going to be a HUGE learning experience lol

Hey I kind of got a break down between LIC, FLI, and GT.

Here goes:

LIC: Smog Legal USDM EJ20 swap (Parts and Labor)

$8500 for Basic Conversion (EJ20)
$4000 for A/T to M/T (WRX 5 Spd.)
$2000+ WRX Disc Brake Conversion (Rear) <-- Recommended
Total= $12,500-14,500

FLI:

USDM (Smog Legal)
-------

EJ20 Conversion - $3500 (Labor)
Tranny Swap - $1500 (Labor)
EJ20 and stuff - $2500 (Parts)
Tranny and misc - $2200 + $500 (Parts)

Total: $10,200

JDM - not smog legal
----

Conversion EJ20 - $3000 (Labor)
Conversion A/T to M/T - $1500 (Labor)
Misc. Tranny Parts - $500 (Parts)
JDM Clip - $3500-$5500 (Parts) Probably going to try to get closer to the $3500.

Total: $8,500

GT: I am waiting for a quote on that. Will post as soon as a find out.

looks like GT may be your cheapest bet so far...but if you're worried about smog legality then LIC is your best bet, but GT does smog legal swaps too IIRC. adam(lic) and i have had this discussion before...for some reason the parts are cheaper in so cal. :shrugs: check out www.rs25.com GT has a big following on that board

Yeah. If I were to go with GT, I would have to find a way to get it down there. I guess I can ask a friend from school to drive mine down there whenever they go home for vacation or something. Who knows? If I can get it within a few hundred dollars more in NorCal, I'll try to have it done up here.

If I end up going south to get the swap, I guess I'll just go during break or something. I can spend a week with some relatives down south while I wait for service. Yeah...

In the mean time, I should probably learn how to drive a stick. Weird is that half the family (parents, aunts, uncles, grandparents) know how to drive stick, but no one has one...

I was, but that isn't for awhile. I have to come up with the cash for that first.
