question regarding modified exhaust tickets
hypothetically, if one is pulled over and ticketed for having a modified muffler because it's "not a stock muffler and too loud, it's illegal to run a non stock muffler", that's just a simple trip to a test-only smog station to have the car tested for noise level compliance? correct?
now lets say that this same person was not cited for having:
no catalytic converter
modified ecu
various other non-oem emissions equipment under the hood
various other non-carb compliant equipment under the hood
etc...
can this person take the car, as-is, to a station for the noise testing and come out clean, or does the car need to go back to stock?

Car Info: This aint a bag. It's a shipment.
Just to help this person get a good answer let me rephrase the question.
Can a vehicle that is impossible to smog still pass an exhaust noise test without getting into more trouble?

Tell him good luck, Russ. I don't think a test-only station can sign those off, I thought it was a ref ticket. If I was taking a car into the ref, I'd be making damn sure it could at least blow clean, so that if an issue came up I'd have opportunity to say "hey, old car, parts NLA, I had to make it work" or "no, intake system is stock, it's normally just covered with a trim piece, this is an M3, not a 325", and maybe even end up with a BAR approval sticker on the core support.
I didn't think he had a ton done to it, but I'd swap back to a stock-looking intake (is he running ITB's or something?), get a cat fabbed into a temporary pipe, jsut in case they toss it on a smog dyno to get the dB readings.
I haven't had to deal with the ref, so I'm blissfully ignorant on if they run it through the full barrage, but I'd rather not find out the hard way and have something completely tweaked and catless and get screwed.
