Engine/Power - EJ20T (pre-2006 WRX and JDM) There is replacement for displacement, it is forced induction - OEM 2.0 liter turbo engines in the USDM WRX. 90-94 Legacy Turbo EJ22 turbo engines can also be discussed here.

Question Semi-Newb Question regarding Exhaust set-up

Hi everyone,
So, I'm finally taking the necessary steps to mod my WRX right. Right now, the only power mod I'm running is a Perrin Up-pipe. My goal is to build my own "Stage 2" kit and hopefully keep a cat or two (or replace with hi-flo cats).

So here is what I'm thinking:

Perrin Up-Pipe (Already installed)
Helix Catted Downpipe
Cobb 3" SS Catback
ECUTek reflash
Perrin Light-weight Power pulley.

Will I be able to put a hi-flo cat between the Helix catted DP and the Cobb exhaust? Is there anything else I should do to both be and appear more "clean". I personally want a nice chunk of power without being too bad to the environment.

What do you think of this set-up?
Thanks a lot for any input!

that's a nice set up...you don't have to put a high flow cat between your downpipe & exhaust, it's already on your
helix downpipe. good luck with your set up.

How would this set up do for CA Smog? Would it pass the sniffer? I may just put all my stocker stuff back on when the time comes.

i'm pretty sure it would pass, just as long you go with helix catted downpipe.
here in hawaii we don't have any emission test

even if u pass sniffer u may not pass visual inspection, depending on how keen the inspector's eyes are.

Are there any better options for a Stage 2 style upgrade for CA?

You'll pass the sniffer with the helix catted DP, but not the visual. Just keep your stock turboback for that day.

don't forget to put the oem turbo heat shield back on. (you have to cut the oem one to fit) or you can buy a cusco turbo heat shield or GRUPPE-S one.

it will help with the visual check...
