Non subie tech question (automatic)
Car: 2000 Toyota Rav4 4WD
Miles: 80k
Problem: Tranny/brakes, i dont really know.
Story:
Today i woke up early because I wanted to do last minute hw. My mom asks me if i can go fill up her car's tank. I drove to the nearest Shell. But upon reaching there i was stopped by a stick displaying bright colors. As the stick turned green i let off the brakes and heard a clunck. This was the first time i ever heard a sound like that coming from an auto. My hypothesis is, if i let off the brake slower i can hear the sound much more clearly and for a longer amount of time. Next stick with light came up and i did my experiment. I let off the brakes very slowly and heard a wierd-deep-creeking sound. It sounds exactly like a submarine (ship) being wrecked. If i recall, imagine a scary ship creeking noise; thats what the rav4 sounded like. Could it possibly be the transmission or can it be the brakes letting off the rotors? I don't know any information about that rav4 but oil changes every 6k miles. Maybe it needs rear differential fluid? Can you guys help me out; especially the automatic guys?

It's just the brakes. All cars will do it, but it's much easier to hear in an auto. I could creep along for 5 minutes making that noise if I wanted to, just letting the car idle against a soft foot on the brakes. Nothing to worry about, nothing wrong.

Avatars are reserved for admins and VIP members. There's occasionally contests posted for VIP status, but the accepted way is to add a number of reviews (of non-OEM parts) to the reviews section to help grow that technical resource.

Really? I feel jipped. I got blisters from all the hand jobs I had to give in exchange for an avatar.
