I have a '02 WRX sedan, and my 6 months insurance premium just jumped from $1100 to $1600. I wouldn't say I'm a wreckless driver (2000: one illegal left turn, 1999: one speeding ticket *cough cough*).
Is this unreasonable? What insurance companies do yall have? What are yall paying?

The new reports on cars just came out and the numbers of claims/cost of repairs for the WRX were higher than last year. I'm betting most everyone who owns a WRX got a cost bump. Mine went up as well and my record has been clean for about 7 years.

Thanks for the insurance info. I'm still new to this owning-a-car deal.
er wow. That is expensive. That is nearly 3x what I currently pay. I just renewed mine last month and have made a claim for a totaled WRX last year (I was not at fault). Are those tickets on your record and how old are you? If this is your first car, did you have insurance before? No previous insurance coverage nearly doubles the rate.

Who's your insurance company (if you don't mind me askign)?
State Farm. I understand they are not the best but they processed my one and only claim ever pretty quickly.
Is this price through your parent's current policy? If your parents cosigned the loan for the car, I would suggest placing the policy in their name with you as a occasional driver. Of course be forewarned that any traffic violations or claims will raise premiums for both you and them. Have you taken Defensive driving? At this price, you save more then the cost of the class (10%). Also check that the price reflected that you have had coverage since high school. I remember when I first got insurance, I was asked if I had insurance for the previous 6 months, I said no because I had just bought the bike. The quote was higher then I expected. But I was wrong, I had been listed as an occasional driver on my parents insurance policy and the new qoute was much lower.
Tickets will hurt, that is why you always have to find a way to avoid having them appear on your record. Take defensive driving, adjudicate (sp?), hire a lawyer, beg and cry but never just pay the fine.

A lot of Texas cities have something called deferred judication. Basically you either agree to take defensive driving, or not to get a ticket for say 6 months (called plea in abayance(sp?) elsewhere). If you meet the requirements then they will never report the infraction to TDOT so it never goes on your record. The best part of this is it is per city. Of course I don't know if they offer that in houston or not, but I got out of one in Arlington that way once.

$1170/yr. through USAA. No marriage discount, no multi-car discount, no tickets. I paid less than this total when my ex-wife's Camaro was on the insurance policy with it so the disounts help.
