interesting...i think they are going to mark up these options way more. by controlling what is available, causing something to become rare will drive up value and consumer demand (since countless people know the sound and potential of the box motor). an example, think of diamonds and the debeers company. just my.02

well, they had FWD models in the past, (ie, th justy) and maybe are trying to get back to that. Although they brought AWD to the forefront of america, they have poor mileage, and if they want to make more $$$, it's about selling to the consumer. Also with the rising prices of gas, and the weakening dollar, subaru needs to do something to make some $$$. I mean subaru sales are not even in the top 10 of car manufacturers in the U.S.
I know what i say may anger some, but it may be good for their image.
I mean people actually think an STI is an actual car With FWD models, you could finally have people say wow, that's a nice STI built ---- (FWD suby model).

Without the boxer engine, this Subaru would be "just another 4-cylinder", its the boxer rumble that sets subys apart from other cars with 4-cylinder engines

If they wanted to save gas... Subie should make a hybrid car.
But then again, hybrid cars aren't cheap either.

I remember a while back that the FIA was considering specific guidelines for WRC engines and that they all would be inline fours leaving the Subaru boxer engine the odd man out. That was quite a while ago and thankfully did not happen. I for one love the boxer rumble, despite according to Kumakubo that the boxer rumble is not so popular now in Japan, hence the use of headers now that mute the burble. Flat 4 for evar...for now at least
