Either one works, you can pay & get the smog after if you would like but you're gonna have to make 2 trips to the dmv so u might as well get it smogged first.

Oh yeah you do have to go to a shop to get it smogged, what i meant was that you would go once to pay for a temp. registration (no smog) then you would have to go back to dmv with your proof of smog.

I'm from modesto and all i gotta say is that its getting worst every year. a few years ago it was ranked highest in the nation for car theft.

^^^still is ranked highest in the nation. there was an article on this in the Modesto Bee many months ago. the municipal government said that they've already implemented policies/initiatives to combat car theft...they expect it to get better and that Modesto would lose the notoriety. however, other problems would still plague the town, mainly meth production and the county's stressed jail system. law enforcement is also stretched thin...there aren't enough PO's patrolling town.

Their is plenty of smog places in Modesto, but there is also Many DMVs in the Area. Modesto DMV is always packed so I wouldnt recomend going there. Turlock is okay, But Manteca IMO would be ur best bet. Both about a 10-15 minute drive from Modesto if you take the FWY.

Look foward to meetin ya if possible man when u move up here. =)

I'm from Ceres, practically the south side of Modesto.

I've never had any problems, and I think allot of people on here are over exagerating. Personally for DMV I'll go to Turlock or Los Banos. Los Banos is pretty far but if your up for a drive the DMV there is almost always empty.

just dont go to the southside, northside, eastside, or westside and you'll be fine :rotfl: but seriously, stay away from the southside (crows landing=little mexico) and the westside. the eastside over by johansen used to be nice but theres been a lot of crime lately. i'd try to get a newer place over by the mall. if i were you i'd look into moving into tracy or some other nearby town.

I grew up in ceres and my family still lives there. Its nothing like the southside of modesto. you arent really in the southside until you pass crows landing

and btw, watch out for cops on river road and moffet. ****er gave me a ticket the other day.

Yeah, I always take 165 to get to Los Banos.

Yeah thats true Ceres isn't as bad as around Crows Landing. I have a buddy who lives over there.

I used to live over off El Vista / Yosemite for a while. I just don't like going over to the West Side of the Airport.
