Or invest in a garage with an internal lock on it, bars on your windows, an extra tall fence, and a lock on the door that only you can unlock from the inside and you'll be o.k.

haha, its only temporary, im going there for work, and once we (me and gf) get used to "mainland" life we're looking to possibly move to turlock. we dont intend to stay in cali for the rest of our lives, but we do intend to raise a family and buy a house eventually on the "mainland". in a different state for sure that offers cheaper prices and provides a safer neighborhood. hawaii is a pleassant place to live definitely, but for all the things that hawaii offered, we could live without most of them, yes even going to the beaches. despite the image hawaii gives, its really not the heaven you guys think it is. maybe for a select few who make $50,000+ a year, but for the majority middle/lower class, we struggle living paycheck-to-paycheck. plenty of minimum wage jobs here (lowest unemployment in the country), but not much if your looking for $12/hr and over. yes, modesto cannot compare to hawaii overall, but like i said, its only temporary, and its not like im going to modesto expecting the same things that hawaii has. thanks for the replies fellas.

Why Modesto and Turlock?

Surprisingly, there is a decent size Hawaiian community in the Sac area.
