Nice.

So I guess we need to talk about some STi struts?

The instructions specifically say not to use an impact wrench. There is an allen key, but that's for the rebound adjustment. It looks like the stud has two flat spots for a wrench, but that means I can't use a socket on the nut, which means I can't use my torque wrench.

I can understand not wanting to use an impact if the strut has sensitive, directional internals. If some jackass just lays on with a wrench, it's going to spin the piston.

I'd recommend backing the perches down all the way and using a strap wrench, in that case.

Only problem is that because they're not inverted, the shaft is a little on the small side (no comment).

With 2 people, one person should be able to crank down on the strap wrench with no damage to the piston shaft, and becuase you're not talking crazy torque, you should be able to snug it up with a torque wrench.

I still maintain that sensible use of an impact gun isn't going to rotate the piston enough to cause any issues, but I totally understand wanting to follow the instructions to the letter on an expensive investment. Let us know if we can help.

I can spin the piston by hand, so an impact gun will just spin it harder and faster. The instructions that came with the coilovers don't go into any detail on how to actually torque down the nuts. Torque is only 40 ft-lbs.

Is it possible to take a close-up pic of the top nut mounting? I think I know what you are talking about but it's a little difficult to picture the thing.

Will do when I get home this afternoon. Hopefully my track tires will be waiting for me when I get there. Then it's a trip to America's Tires...

I'll call you in the morning. It all depends on what time my tires get here this afternoon. If they get there early enough, I'll get them mounted today. Otherwise I'll have to do it first thing tomorrow morning. But then the rest of the morning and afternoon can be devoted to the God of suspension mods.

Trailing arms and lateral links won't be here until the 5th, but I can do them one night during the week. The master cylinder bracket should be here today too.

Someone stop me...

Is Mike's car an 05? Because if so, they won't work.

What'd you get for trailing/lateral links?

Poltec's Lateral links look nice, but their titanium ones are just scary. Take some pictures, I am very interested in the build quality of their parts.

And the prototype of the master cylinder bracket I got. This should work mucho bettero than the MRT one I had on the WRX (free to a good home).
