When I lived in SoCal, our cat got stung in the face by a bee one night, and it cost us @$120. Effin' management company wouldn't reimburse us even though that was the THIRD time in six months that we had an active bee hive in the attic of our apartment.

True dat. My parents dropped $9K on replacement hip surgery for their 5yr old bloodhound, it didn't take very well, and the poor dog later died of pneumonia.

If I had an animal, anything over $200 and it will be put down. And don't think that I lack experience or not know the companionship with a dog or a cat or a lizard (I took a leopard gecko into a vet one time), I just don't think its worth the risk. Its pretty much a crap shoot after $200.

Sad thing was, our apt wasn't nearly that ghetto and I was paying $1,050 a month at that place. I wonder what they would have done if my wife had gotten stung, because she's allergic to bee stings.

i understand that, not so much the dollar amount.. if the cost to fix said pet is reasonable and the animal has a chance to still live a meaningful life, then im gonna do it.. im more whining about the fact that it cost 170 and 2 hours of my time when it wasnt so serious, wouldve been even more but having a ever so slight fever prevented him from getting his vaccines( due in 3 months)... oh well...

Yeah, I was puzzled that my folks would drop that kinda coin on an animal. I mean, my little brother and sister were both in college at the time, so it's not like the money couldn't have been put to better use. Besides, my family lives on a ranch; animals either die or have to be put down all the friggen time.

Our silver tabby has the same "M" pattern in his fur above his eyes. I guess that's a genetic trait?

If it makes you feel better, I recently had a $400 bill at the vet because one of my cats was vomiting non-stop. Couldn't keep any food down. They ran an assload of tests (they wanted to run $900 worth of tests and I said "uh negative") and the result is that she's perfectly healthy and just has a sensitive stomach. Switch food types.

$400 for that. Thanks.
