well it also depends upon what dsl package you have....and the distance you live from the CO...the further you live away from the CO the crappier the speeds..personally i dont live that far from the CO so my 3mb is very nice, i top out at 290-300kb/s and iirc my upload is 256k up(50kb/s max)

pays for 1.5m.. gets 384k ... even if he is too far from the CO, there is a problem. PacBell cuts DSL distance down to 14k feet from the standard 18.5k
there is no way pac bell will sell DSL service to someone thats too far away for the guaranteed speeds

You missed his point dude... if SBC thinks you are too far from the CO to get the advertised rate, they won't sell you DSL in the first place. There is an error somewhere in the physical connections or something that they need to fix.
