trial by written declaration works pretty good.
points depends on the jurisdiction you were pulled over in. i got a ticket for 22 over in the roseville courts district a while back (actually going 32 over but whatever) and it was only 1 point. i paid my fine and did my traffic school since i was definitely driving too fast.
